Tank Setup and Cleaning

Bettas are recommended to be in a 5 gallon or more, while it is minimum for them to be in a 3 gallon. A lid is necessary as they are known to jump to catch their prey in the wild. Especially if you own any of the wild type bettas they are infamous for jumping.

Having aquatic plants gives cover and a safe hiding space for your aquatic friend.  Using botanicals is recommended for the tannins, which contain antibacterial remedies. Mopani wood or Indian Almond leaves are a good option to taint the water a slight brown color.

Cleaning the tank would mean doing water changes ever so often of 10 or 20%. Depending on the size of the tank, the percentage and the frequency changes as well. Smaller tanks mean more water changes!

Feeding these aquatic water puppies with a variety of frozen foods and pellets increases their appetite and gives them more options rather than sticking with one food for the rest of their life.
